PURPOSE:To obtain the subject polymer having excellent mechanical properties. etc., and extremely low contents of catalyst residue and amorphous polymer by using a highly active novel catalyst system consisting of a specific Ti- containing solid catalyst component, an organic Al compound and a specific Si compound. CONSTITUTION:A Ti compound of formula Ti(OR1)nX4-n (R1 is 1-20C hydrocarbon group; X is halogen; n is 0-4) is reduced with an organic Mg compound in the presence of an organic Si compound containing Si-O bond and the obtained solid product is treated with an ester compound and then with a mixture of an ether compound and TiCl4 or a mixture of an ether compound. TiCl4 and an ester compound to obtain a solid catalyst component containing a trivalent Ti compound. The objective polymer is produced by (co)polymerizing an alpha-olefin using a catalyst consisting of (A) the above solid catalyst component, (B) an organic Al compound and (C) an Si compound of formula R2R3Si(OR4)2 (R2 is 5-20C alicyclic hydrocarbon group; R3 is 2-12C chain hydrocarbon group; R4 is 1-20C hydrocarbon group).
