To measure the dead time (Tt) of a control value (v(t)) in a control stretch (RS), two gps. of measured values (u(n.Ta),v(n.Ta)) are formed after a given scanning time (Ta). The actual values of a setting value (u(t)) as the 1st gp., and the control value (v(t)) as the 2nd gp. are stored as measured by scanning (n). Two tables are constructed. A binary value is taken according to an increase in a measured value in the 1st and 2nd gp. compared to the direct time-aged measured value in the gp. or in the event of a decrease. A measurement window at the tables gives a selection of positions for the binary values to be compared in pairs to give a sum for the number of pairs with the same binary value. The binary values of one table or the other are shifted towards the time-aged or time-shortened values. The binary values at both tables are again compared at the measurement window to give a 2nd sum of the pairs with the same binary value. The steps are repeated to give sums of the pairs with the same binary value. The max. sum is selected matching the shifts of each table. The shifts are multiplied by the scanning time (Ta) value to give the dead time (Tt) value of the control value (v) as (Tt=r.Ta). USE/ADVANTAGE - The system is used with an assembly to produce and/or work strand, ribbon or web material, or to carry and/or process flow masses and esp. fluids. The method gives electronic computer program control, through process computer control systems, to give a running measurement of the actual dead time of a control value in a control stretch.
