The device is formed by darkening components (6,7) beneath the outer plate (4) fixed to the cover (3) operable with reduced translatory or rotary path ways. The cover (3) has an inner plate (5), which with the outer plate (4) forms a flat intermediate space (8) for accommodation of the darkening component (6,7). The darkening component is formed by at least two superimposed polarisation foils (6,7) movable relatively to one another. At least one of the constituents of the darkening component is firmly connected to one of the plates (4,5). The inner plate (5) is movable relative to the outer plate (4). USE/ADVANTAGE - Light-permeable cover for vehicle roof is simple to operate, with its light permeability stagelessly regulatable over wide range.
