A transport medium for sensitive microorganisms consists of Stuart medium mixed with charcoal and with 1% peptone. A transport medium for sensitive microorganisms consisting of nutrient agar to which 1% charcoal has been added, is also claimed. Pref. the transport medium contains per litre 3.0g sodium chloride, 0.2g potassium chloride, 0.1g calcium and magnesium chloride, 0.2g monopotassium phosphate, 1.15g di-sodium phosphate, 1.0g sodium thgioglycolate, 7-8g agar, 10g charcoal and 10g peptone. The transport medium can also contain polymyxin B, Linkomycin, trimethoprim, nystatin or oleandomycin, erythromycin, sodium azie or crystal violet. USE/ADVANTAGE - The modified Stuart medium or modified agar are esp. suitable as a transport medium for Neissercia (esp. pref. Nerserria gonorrhoea) and other sensitive microorganisms such as Haemophilus, Strapolococci and Streptococci. The microorganisms have a life expectancy of at least 2-3 weeks in the modified agar and are capable of recultivation without problems after this period.
