A water treatment arrangement comprises regularly shaped permanent magnets (4) located within a water pipe with alternately polarised magnets arranged alongside and/or opposite one another to induce strong turbulence of the flowing water. USE/ADVANTAGE - The arrangement produces uniform magnetic field distribution and thorough mixing of the water so that lime particles are converted to a regular shape and are prevented from forming an adherent scale deposit on pipe walls or in domestic equipment such as washing, dish washing and coffee making machines and water heating equipment. Thus, less water softener and other chemicals are required for water treatment, e.g. for maintaining water purity in swimming baths.
