The surgical instrument is eg. used for lifting the gall-bladder out of the liver during laparoscopic cholecystectomy. It has a handle (14) with an operating lever (16) and a trigger (17) and a tube (1) is attached to the handle, with a cage (4) made of several wires (3) at the end. The cage is retracted by a pull-wire (6) inside the tube. The tube has a region (13) of reduced dia. between its distal (5) and proximal (1) portions. Cords (8,9) are attached to this portion holding a bag used to catch and hold the gall-bladder. USE/ADVANTAGE - Laparoscopic cholecystectomy instrument cuts up gall-bladder into fine pieces which are carried away from operation site in small bag.
