A fluid bed reactor to burn coal has an elongated, vertical reactor chamber, and a separator at the upper end of the reactor cavity to separate solid and gaseous substances. A pipe returns separated solid substances to the lower end of the reactor chamber and a feeder introduces fresh coal to the return pipe. An inlet pipe introduces a gaseous medium in the vicinity of the return pipe outlet. The novelty is that the inlet for (33, 34) for the gaseous medium (5, 37) has at least two jets (36, 30, 31) separated by a given distance (29) and directed into the reaction chamber (1) in the return pipe (8) in a horizontal plane (27, 28) below the upper third (23) of the length (L) of the cross section (22) of the return pipe outlet (6, 7, 8) and of which at least one (31) subtends an acute angle (32) with the outlet (22) adjacent to the reactor chamber (1) wall (39). USE/ADVANTAGE - The assembly burns coal. The simple arrangemtn further improves the degree of combustion of solid particles.
