The multiple unit train is designed like a semi-trailer in road transport. The tractor unit has two bogies, of which at least one is a driving bogie. The bogies are constructed within the chassis so that they replace the first bogie of the train to be towed, this bogie therefore being the coupling pivot. The driving engine is in the front part of the tractor unit and there is a cabin with all the necessary auxiliary controls. The drive can be by electric motor or IC engine. The first bogie can move within an offset subframe whereas the second bogie is integrated with the chassis. USE/ADVANTAGE - Inexpensive replacement for having separate locomotive or engine built into first coach of railway train.
