The method employs a pattern recognition technique when scanning the complete image. A charge coupled device (CCD) video camera is used for the measurements and with accuracy of location results a consequence of the known geometry and colour content of the reference points. A clear discrimination between the reference points and surrounding regions is thereby ensured. USE/ADVANTAGE - Automatically recognising location of specific reference areas during photogrammetric scanning/analysis of colour video image generated by target object. Accelerates task of identification and analysis with saving of operator time. Enhances accuracy of inexpensive commercially available camera equipment.
