(i) Pure spatially isomeric monoglycerides of formula RCOOCH2CHOHCH2OH (I), (ii) mixts. of monoglycerides (R = C9H19, C11H23, C13H27, C15H31, C17H35), (iii) mixts. of monoglyceride sulphates of formula RCOOCH2CHOCH2OSO3Na (II), and (iv) new materials comprising glycerol adsorbed on a solid carrier comprising SiO2 gel (30-70 mesh; 70-230 mesh; 230-400 mesh), 'Florisil' (RTM, 'Chromosorb' (WHP:WAW) (RTM), 'Volaspher' (RTM), 'Celite'; (535;545) (RTM), active C, porous glass beads (345 A; 810 A), Al2O3 (neutral; basic), cellulose, triacetylcellulose, or starch, are claimed. R = straight-chain, (un)satd. 7-21C aliphatic gp., opt. icnluding X gp(s). or to which a Y gp. is linked; X = C=O, -C-O-, C=S, -C-S-, -C=C-, or -C=C-; Y = F, Cl, Br, I, (CF2)nCF3, or (CH2)nCH3; n = 0-20. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are used for direct conversion to (II) (claimed). (I) are nonionic surfactants, and raw materials for anionic tensides, and raw materials for components for biologically active natrual and other substances. (I) can be used in foods, cosmetic and pharmaceuticals. (I) are obtd. in high yield, as colourless, odourless solids, by direct selective synthesis, and without the need for further processing or purification.
