The travelling magnetic field drive uses a two-phase (m=2) winding arrangement in which three similarly designed travelling field inductors (I, II, III) are interconnected and joined to the avaliable three-phase mains. Both phases of each inductor (I) or (II) or (III) have different number of turns per phase in the ratio 1 : root 3, and the three phase with a higher number of turns i.e. (Ia, IIa, IIIa) are connected in delta, and those with lower number of turns are connected in star i.e. (Ib, IIb, IIIb). The drive can be connected directly to an available three-phase mains network giving symmetrical locating of the three phases, in contrast to a arrangement with only a single m = 2 phase winding system. USE/ADVANTAGE - Linear or sector motor. Reduction in travelling field speed achieved in simple manner.
