The analogue video signal (1) is digitised (2) into a parallel sequence for error correction (3) preparing 8-bit data word sequences for the address inputs of read-only memory (4). 14-bit words are read out from the memory to a parallel-to-serial converter (5). The latter may be a shift register with a 14-times-faster output clock (14fs) giving a bit-serial data stream for the amplifier (6) driving the recording head (7). USE/ADVANTAGE - In magnetic recording on video tape, security of data transfer and storage is improved by bandwidth limitation of transmission and head-to-tape channel.
