The appts. delivers a variable load voltage at constant current for each electrode (7) by a section (TrA-TrC) of a main transformer (Tr) with a mains winding (W1), a load winding (W2) and an additional winding (W3). Each additional winding is connected by the controlled inverter (2) to a prim. winding (e.g. ZW1A) of the additional transformer (ZT) whose magnetically decoupled sections (ZT1-ZTC) have ratios in geometrical progression. The thyristors are fired at zero or 180 deg. phase. USE/ADVANTAGE - In arc furnace, harmonic content of controlled voltage is reduced. Load voltage is variable finely and rapidly adaptable to variable impedance.
