The autonomous forestry system performs orientation and navigation based on the identification of an individual constituent pattern of permanently marked tree trunks. The system deploys the towing cable of a tractor at the point at which a tree to be extracted is located. Micro-orientation and macro-orientation involving a GPS are combined. USE/ADVANTAGE - Primarily for provision of small dia. trunks or for extraction of individual trunks. Navigation is not based on pulses or measured distance. Forestry vehicles are confined to small area of travel within managed forest.
