Benefication of lignite comprises feeding dried lignite from the dryer or via an intermediate bunker into a water bath, mixing with water and removing from the surface. Mineral components that have sunk to the bottom are removed. Lignite is pref. continually fed to the water bath and lignite liberated from the mineral materials is continually withdrawn from the water bath surface. The temp. in the water bath is maintained at below approximately 50 deg.C. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is used to remove ballast materials from lignite, e.g. in lignite refining.
