The vehicle sidewall flap is moved out in front of the wall by a linkage when opening. The linkage comprises support and guide rods which are hinged to the vehicle and are interconnected at fixed distance from the flap at this end. The rods move freely relative the flap and a gear at the end of the support rod is directly engaged by the linkage movement with a rack fitted onto the flap. Another gear (19) at the vehicle end (15) of the support rod (6) should engage a toothed segment (22) fixed on the vehicle such that the two gears (19, 17) combine to form a drive transmission. USE/ADVANTAGE - Motor vehicles, e.g. bus or coach side luggage compartments. Double geared linkage pivots flap for total opening off low power.
