Detecting motor vehicle movements and traffic density in traffic monitoring system - using video camera coupled to digital image memory for comparison of stored with actual images to identify motion with further comparison to identify vehicle types
A video camera (VK) identifies vehicle movements at critical road locations, such as junctions. The video camera output line connects to a monitor (KM) and also to a memory (BS) and a motion detector (BE). The detector operates by comparing current with previous images. If a difference exists a comparator (VE) is activated and the stored image is compared with stored (MS) values representing vehicle profiles. If the comparator identifies an agreement, a counter (ZS) is incremented. The counter is subdivided to log the number of several types of vehicles identified. A MODEM transmits the data (MD). USE/ADVANTAGE - Counting and gathering of traffic information. No installation of sensors required.
