The method involves level measurement using a frequency selective level meter taking account of the meters intrinsic noise during a calibration measurement. A sunusoidal signal of a first defined level and then of a second defined level is fed into the level meter from a sine generator of adjustable frequency during calibration and the intrinsic noise level measurement object and the objects noise level measured. The noise figure is derived from the supplied and measured levels. ADVANTAGE - Noise figures are measured very accurately using simple arrnagement without requiring noise source.
