To heat ceramic slip and similar materials, to bring them to the required temp. for glazing tiles, etc. a moving immersion heater is used within the slip in its container. Pref. the immersion heater also acts as a stirrer to prevent pptn. of heavier slip components to the base of the container and maintain a temp. difference throughout the slip of +/- 1 deg.C. The motor which operates the immersion heater/stirrer has a variable rotary speed, and the heating medium has a variable flow control through the immersion heater. ADVANTAGE - The method stirs and heats the slip to keep its temp. within +/- 0.5 deg.C and give an even heat throughout.
