The rail vehicle comprises an upper level (1) serving as a passenger carriage accessible by a side entrance (5) or end wall door (6). A lower level which in the area between the bogies (4) has a low position tunnel providing cargo space accessible through freight doors (3). The space height of the upper level (1) is greater than that of the cargo space, and the latter is designed to accept standard freight container (7). ADVANTAGE - The rail vehicle has high flexibility enabling transportation of passengers and unit loads.
