A method of determining the Wobbe number and/or calorific value of a flowing gas involves measuring the vol. flow and further characteristic parameter such as pressure drop, density adn viscosity and/or holding them constant. The mass flow is measured thermally and the Wobbe number and calorific value derived from the vol. and mass flows and one further parameter using an approximation function. The derived values are displayed or processed. The gas is expanded isothermally over a flow resistance with laminar flow and the pressure drop across the resistance measured and/or held constant to determine the measurement parameters. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simple, very accurate measurement of thermal load parameters of gas for gas burner without involving combustion.
