Thermoplastic polyimides (I) from 2,2-bis(phthalic anhydrido-(4))-propane (II), 2,2,-bis(4-(4'-aminophenoxy) phenyl)propane (III), and opt. other diamines, acids or acid anhydrides are claimed (II) can be obtd. by oxidn. of 2,2-bis(1,2-dimethylphenyl-(4)-)propane; (III) can be obtd. by catalytic hydrogenation of bis(4'-nitro) analogue. Prepn of (I) by forming polyimide conventionally in solvent then concentrating and opt. further condensing in evapn. extruder at 250-400 deg.C, opt. under vacuum.
