A coin operated dispenser for newspapers has an enclosed housing with a front flap (2) that is displaced to allow delivery from a stack (6) supported on a suspended panel (11). The top newspaper is displaced by a gripper (31) at the end of an arm (32). The arm is coupled by a linkage system (38,45) to a motor (47). As the motor rotates the gripper is moved to push the top paper clear. When the flap is closed the papers are held by a plate. The stack is raised incrementally to maintain a reference height. ADVANTAGE - Protection against damage.
