The desulphurisation comprises introducing a desulphurising agent (I) into the melt zone. (I) is introduced e.g. by suction through blast nozzles or by blowing in through an injector. Pref. (I) is e.g. CaC2, CaO, Ca-Si, Mg or a mixt.. Pref. (I) has a particle size of 0.001-10mm. USE/ADVANTAGE - The satisfactory desulphurisation is obtd. by treating the melt directly in the cupola furnace, and is economical c.f. prior art desulphurisation carried out separately in a ladle outside the cupola furnace.
