A bottle (2) containing liquid (4) is sealed by a stopper (3). Liquid flows through the pipe (5) into the reservoir (7). Air escapes from the reservoir through the vent (11). The overflow (10) is situated below a bell jar (9). When the liquid reaches the pre-determined level (8), syphoning begins. At the same time, a fluid lock closes the air pipe (12) to the bottle (2). This stops the supply of liquid to the reservoir. Syphoning continues until the reservoir is empty. The fluid lock then clears allowing the cycle to repeat until the bottle is empty or is upended.
