PURPOSE: To enable observation of magnetic domain behavior during a rotary magnetizing process by providing a scan type electron microscope with the function of changing the direction of a magnetic substance with respect to an electron beam in such a manner as to obtain a maximum magnetic domain contrast and the function of analyzing images of magnetic domains. ;CONSTITUTION: A scan type electron microscope has the function of changing the direction of a soft ferromagnetic substance with respect to an electron beam in such a manner as to obtain a maximum magnetic domain contrast through the incidence of the electron beam on the surface of the soft ferromagnetic material in a rotary magnetized state and the function of analyzing images of magnetic domains, and is capable of observing magnetic domain behavior during a rotary magnetizing process. In order to cause a sample to undergo a rotary magnetizing process, yokes for generating rotating magnetic fields are arranged crosswise. The longitudinal and cross yokes are excited by alternating currents which are 90 degrees out of phase with each other. The direction and magnitude of a magnetizing vector generated in the magnetic substance can be varied by combining the maximum values of the two magnetic fields.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
