PURPOSE: To reduce power consumption while enhancing system efficiency by controlling the speed of a roof fan as a function of the compressor speed and the liquid refrigerant temperature thereby minimizing the quantity of air flowing into an outdoor coil over the entire working region of a heat pump. CONSTITUTION: When a system is operating normally in heating or cooling mode, a control module 34 monitors input using a specific algorithm and regulates fan speed by performing recalculation thus sustaining an optimal performance. Furthermore, at a low temperature close to -18 deg.C, the control module 34 operates to circulate an outdoor fan 22 thus sustaining a required upper pressure. When the temperature of an outdoor coil 12 drops due to low outer air temperature or strong wind, speed of the outdoor fan 22 also drops substantially. When the system operates in heating mode, required operating speed of the outdoor fan 22 drops substantially as the temperature of the outdoor coil 12 increases.
