The translating device includes a first fixed reference (2) including two linear pluralities of boxes (2a,..., 2i,..., 2n; 2'a,..., 2'i,..., 2'n.) extending on either side of a central box (20), the central box being given the numeral 3 and each plurality including at least a complete set of twelve boxes which, symmetrically starting from the central box (20), carries the succession of numerals 8, 1, 6, 11, 4, 9, 2, 7, 0, 5, 10, 3 and a second reference (1) which can move along the first and carries a plurality of at least two lots of twelve boxes (1a,..., 1i,..., 1n; 1'a,..., 1'b,..., 1'n) which are the same width as those of the first reference, each box being assigned the name of a note in the chromatic succession of these notes, the box assigned with the note re being substantially at the centre of this movable reference, one of the boxes assigned with the note fa to the left of this central box being provided with an identification sign (12) of the corresponding box of the fixed reference, one of the boxes assigned with the note si, to the right of this central box, also being provided with an identification sign (12) of the corresponding box of the fixed reference (2).
