The CCD image sensor has a potential trough (2) of one conductive type formed in a substrate (1) of opposite conductivity type with repetitive formation of alternating photodetector regions (3) of the same conductivity type as the substrate (1) and buried channel zones (2). A channel stop zone (6) with the same conducitivity type as the potential trough (2) is provided at each opposing edge of each buried channel zone (4). Pref, the part of each buried channel zone screened by the channel stop zones (6) is thinner than the remainder of the buried channel zone. ADVANTAGE - Allows transfer efficiency of image signal charge to be controlled.
