A thermistor (17) senses the temp. of a fixer roller (5a) heated by an internal element (5b). A control section (9,10) switches the current supply to the latter on and off to prevent the fixing temp. becoming too high. A circuit (31) generates a signal switching of current to the heating element for a short time in a predetermined first period. A photocopuler (32) registers a switched on condition of the heating element as well as a switched off condition. A switch off circuit (33) serves to switch off current to the heating element when the switched on condition exceeds a second timed period that is longer than the first period. USE/ADVANTAGE - Laser printer, photocopier, facsimile appts. or similar. Switches off current to heating unit as soon as fault in fixer temp. control circuit arises.
