Untempered, heat formable steel is claimed. It needs no heat treatment, merely air cooling, and its deformation properties are independent of the size of the article. The compsn. of this steel is as follows: (wt.%) C 0.1-0.3; Si 0.05-0.5; Mn 0.8-2.0; Cr 0.3-1.5; Mo 0.05-0.5; Al 0.002-0.06; V 0.05-0.5; N 0.008-0.2, and the rest Fe with unavoidable impurities. Furthermore, the proportions of the individual elements must fulfil the following conditions: (a) %Mo + %V is at least .20%; (b) 1.8x%Mn + %Cr + 1/2%Mo is at least 20 x %C; (c) Bs is at least 550 deg. C (Bs is the Bainite transition temp.) and (d) Bs = 830-270x%C-90x%Mn-70x%Cr-83x%Mo. USE/ADVANTAGE - Useful for making parts for driving frames, power driven vehicles, and hydraulic parts in machine building. Economic on heat requirements, excellent properties.
