Detection and absorption of organically bound halogen(s) in aq. specimens - by passing soln. via 2 adsorption columns of active carbon@ in series, burning resulting moist carbon in oxygen@ flow and detecting by coulometry
A method of detecting adsorbing, organically bound halogens in aq. specimens contg. suspended matter involves passing the soln. via two adsorption columns of active carbon in series and burning the moist active carbon from each column separately in an oxygen flow. The resulting halogenide is detected by potentiometry, esp. Coulometry. The suspended matter in the soln. is filtered out by a filter element before the adsorption columns. The active carbon from the first column is burnt in the oxygen flow along with the filter cake from the filter element. ADVANTAGE - The method enables reproducible results to be achieved using a suitable column adsorption unit (3).
