The measurement gauge has a rod-shaped component (10) with a cursor which has a measurement tip perpedicular to it and magnetic markings extending along it. The cursor carries a sensor arrangement which interacts with the markings. It contains two magnetic fields, i.e. Hall sensors (14,16) at a defined longitudinal distance apart different from the scale of the markings. The magnetic markings are formed by a magnetic tape (12) extending along the rod with alternating oppositely magnetised, permanently magnetic regions of equal length. The sensor outputs are evaluated to produce a signal corresp. to the distance between the measurement tips. USE/ADVANTAGE - For length measurement, gauge is improved with high precision scale markings, resulting in accurate measurement substantially independent of temp..
