The fully automatic laboratory, to analyse molten slag and steel samples from the metallurgical vessel of one or more processing assemblies and/or foundry, has a central sample prepn. (2) to load at least one spectrometer (4) through a sample manipulator (3) on one side, and a pneumatic feed on the other side with automatic separation (5) and a sample robot (6) to charge the C/S analyser (7) and gas analysis station (8). All the appts. (2,3,4,5,6,7,8) are activated or stopped by a central computer (9) with internal data transfer lines (9a) to determine whether a full or partial analysis is required and the separate requirements. Data flow channels (18a) link the analysis appts. (4/13;7/15;8/16;6/17) to the central computer (9) for the analysis findings to be stored in memory. An external circuit system (19a) provides the communication link for data transfer (19) to the process computer of at least one processing assembly (20) and the steel works (21). ADVANTAGE - The steel works laboratory is conc. and automatic in operation, with an internal data network for the analysis stages through computer program control. The analyses are carried out externally to the steel processing assemblies.
