The actual speeds and distances between vehicles are measured, and a speed compatible with an average spacing is displayed by a traffic sign and enforced by adjustment of a plate, laid across the carriageway and raised or lowered in accordance with the allowable speed. The adjustment may be performed manually e.g. by traffic police, or automatically e.g. by a fog warning installation. A plate of fixed height may be installed at places where accidents are frequent. ADVANTAGE - Traffic behaviour is improved with prevention of significant number of deaths and injuries.
