Within the window an amplitude mean (Mu1 etc.) and standard deviation (sigma) are assigned to each field of 64 or ore radar resoln. cells and stored in programmable read only memories (PROM1,PROM2). One memory (PROM1) produces a squared mean which is used together with the mean square to address the other memory (PROM2) providing the standard deviation. Redn. and target recognition thresholds (RED,ZEK) are compared with linear overall mean and standard deviation values multiplied by estimation factors. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. in surveillance of shipping lanes. Misinterpretation of target information is excluded with higher security.
