Assembly to recognise the form of advancing solvent - in thin film chromatography irrespective of external time frame, having sensor to locate carrier plate placed in sealed chamber
Thin film chromatography requires the precise fixing of the advancement of the solvent front by means of a carrier plate and sensor submerged within a solvent bath, but the moment at which the front passes a given point is difficult to pinpoint outside a given time frame. The novelty is that the carrier plate is placed in a sealed chamber within a housing and that the lowest edge is submerged below a drying flow track in the solvent bath so that the carrier plate may be located from a sensor outside the housing. USE/ADVANTAGE - It is claimed that the arrangement facilitates the determn. of the position of the solvent front without reference to an external time frame, with no other changes in standard laboratory procedures. It is further claimed that the arrangement facilitates the use of a microprocessor to monitor and control the operation.
