The oven has a magnetron (8) positioned above the top wall (7) of the oven space (1), with a coupling pin (9) projecting through an opening in the oven wall. The oven space (1) has a meandering tubular heating element (14) lying in a flat plane parallel to the top wall (7), with the coupling pin (9) fitting between the adjacent meanders of the heating element (4). Pref. the coupling pin (9) lies at an electrical spacing of a quarter wavelength or an odd multiple of a quarter wavelength from a short-circuit device (21, 23) with 2 rod sections. ADVANTAGE - Heating element acts as microwave antenna.
