Conversion of fine carbonaceous waste matter into lumps - by adding water and binding agent to pelletise, granulate or briquette fine-matter for economic use as carburiser
The method is for converting fine C-contg. matter into lumps by the addn. of water and a binding agent so that the fine matter becomes pelletised, granulated or briquetted. The binder is a modified thermostable starch with a dehydration temp. of 180-300 deg.C (pref. 230-250 deg.C). Variations claimed include those relating to the pelletising, granulating and briquetting procedures, and the use of the prod. as carburising material. USE/ADVANTAGE - This is an improvement on an earlier method, in that no volatile constituents result and that no change in chemical analysis occurs. Fine C-contg. matter, available as waste from the petroleum industry and from the prodn. of electrodes, can be used as a carburising agent in steel prodn. provided that its particle size is enlarged, as here claimed, for its economic use.
