The invention relates to plastic granules which are only heated to their softening point on the surface before being pressed in a mould. A process and equipment for mfr. of the granules is also described. The granules, which are free of voids, have a cross-section with one dimension longer than the other and are mfd. by extruding continuous polymer strands from a die with nozzles corresponding to the final product cross-section before cutting into granules. Alternatively circular section strands are extruded and calandered to produce the required cross-section. USE/ADVANTAGE - The granules are used in a pressing process in which only the outer surface is softened before compression and the granule prodn. process ensures no voids or micropores exist in the moulding material.
