PROCESS FOR PRODUCING 9(S)-5,9-DIMETHYLHEPTADECANE, THE SEX PHEROMONE MAIN COMPONENT OF LEUCOPTERA SCITELLA (L. MALIFOLIELLA) AND 9(S)-5,9-DIMETLYPENTADECANE, THE SEX PHEROMONE MAIN COMPONENT OF PERILEUCOPTERA COFFEELLA
(9S)-5,9-di: methyl -hepta-decane and (9S)-5,9-di: methyl -penta-decane cpds. of sex pheromone-effect are prepd. from 12-(+)-citronellal condensed in Wittig type reaction with alkyl-phosphonium-halogenide, prepd. from a suitable alkyl-halogenide and tri: phenyl-phosphine. Resulting 2,6-di:methyl-2,8-alkadenes are selectively oxidised to 2,6-di:methyl -alkadienals are coupled in a Wittig type reaction with propyl-tri:phenyl-phosphonium-halogluide to yield 5,9-di:methyl-3,5,11-alka-trienes. - These are catalytically hydrogenated to (9S)-5,9-di:methyl -hepto-decane and (9S)-5,9-di:methyl -penta-decane, main components of sex pheromones of Leucoptera scitella and Perileucoptera scitella
