PURPOSE:To improve ductility, wear resistance, and secondary workability by regulating, in a ferrite-martensite dual-phase stainless steel, the compositional range of the steel and the ratio of martensite to the whole volume to specific values, respectively. CONSTITUTION:This stainless steel is a stainless steel having a dual-phase structure of ferrite and martensite and has a composition consisting of, by weight, 0.1-0.3% carbon, =1% Si,1-2.5% Mn, 15-20% Cr, =0.6% Ni, =0.1% N, =0.01% 0, =0.04% P, =0.03% S, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and further, martensite comprises 30-80% of the whole volume. This stainless steel can be suitably used particularly for center core material for floppy disk for use as magnetic recording medium.
