PURPOSE:To obtain highly precise grinding to the outer periphery of the outer ring without dismantling the ring by bringing from ring's outer side both a power tranmission wheel and a pusher roll in contact with the roll outer ring at two points on a semicircle of the ring and bringing a grinding wheel in contact with the outer ring at a point between the said two points in order to grind the outer peripheral surface of the roll outer ring. CONSTITUTION:Both a power transmission wheel 17 and a pusher roll 18 touch with pressure the roll surface 3b of the outer periphery of the roll outer ring 3 at 2 points in a forward side semicircle of the roll surface 3b. The total resultant force D, which consists of the resultant force A and B, produced by the above two touching with pressure the roll outer ring 3 as well as the resultant force C by a grinding wheel 19, acts on a roll shaft 1. As a result, the roll's inner and outer track surfaces 2a, 3d and a rolling body 4 are pushed to each other, thereby making the radial clearance zero. And the grinding is performed in this state. Accordingly, the grinding work becomes equivalent to that in which the center of the roll outer ring 3 is taken as the grinding reference. Thus, the roll outer ring 3 is turned without deflection, under a 4- point support made up of the roll shaft 1, transmission wheel 17, pusher roll 18, and the grinding wheel 19. Therefore, the outer ring 3 can be ground with accuracy to the uniform thickness and grade-of-roundness with respect to the track surface 3a.
