PURPOSE:To utilize a multiplexed communication line effectively by setting a reply delay variably so as to monitor the presence of a reply signal thereby setting differently a delay time of each terminal equipment. CONSTITUTION:Upon the receipt of a dial signal, a reply delay control means 10 starts a delay timer circuit 10b and it expires after lapse of a delay time T set by a delay time setting section 10a. A reply signal monitor circuit 11 always monitors a reply signal output from other facsimile equipments F... on a communication line l via a signal processing section 13. When the monitor circuit 11 detects a reply signal from the other facsimile equipment F, the circuit 11 resets the delay timer circuit 10b to inhibit the transmission of a reply signal. When the said delay timer circuit 10b expires, an automatic reply means 12 sends a reply signal to the communication line l via the signal processing section 13 automatically to establish the communication line with a caller station.
