The invention relates to a method and device for sorting employing the study of sounds, applied to the field of cultivating fish. The shellfish are conveyed by means of a conveyor to a means capable of imparting a shock to them. They fall, for example, one by one onto an acoustically dead block consisting of a stainless steel plate attached to a concrete block. The sound emitted under the effect of the shock is collected, amplified, filtered, processed by an appropriate electronic circuit which, as a function of the result, controls a flap which directs the shellfish into one or other of the directions f1 and f2. The invention applies to sorting shellfish, in particular before packaging them. IMAGE
