A ball drop testing arrangement contains a test object support (2), a drop tube (4) vertically mounted above the support, a releasable upper drop block (8) holder (12) and devices for preventing multiple strikes and for returning the block to the upper position. For tubes with pneumatic block return, vents (18) prevent the build-up of press. during free fall. The vents can be closed by adjustable closure elements (26) after the block strikes the test object and before the pressure difference is generated. USE/ADVANTAGE - Improved to ensure accurate achievement of theoretical impact speed and suitability for different wts.
