The circuitry defines the start time point of an ultra-sonic received signal in which the received signal is input to two voltage comparators (6,8) of different thresholds. The comparator (6) has a threshold well above any interference signals and receives the signal 180 deg phase shifted, via a filter (5). The second comparator (8) with a zero volt threshold, receives the signal directly and detects its zero crossings. A logic circuit comprising three flip-flops (7,10,12) produces a cycle signal and a period signal. The exact cycle length is obtained by subteracsubtracting the period signal from the cycle signal and the corrected value is then further processed. Throughflow measurement in gas pipes by measuring propagating time e.g. by ultrasonic transceivers using piezo-electric transducers. USE/ADVANTAGE - measuring devices where only minimal temporal error in relation to sound wave length is permissable. Enables precise definition of start time of ultra-sonic received signal with special command to transducer and special operation of transmitter and receiver.
