An arrangement for protecting display cabinets against unauthorised opening contains an identification card reader (21) on each display cabinet (1). The reader is connected to a data processing device which generates a release signal for an access aperture lock. The data processing device stores personal identifiers as stored in the identification cards and which trigger the release signal which is delivered via an output unit. USE/ADVANTAGE - For protecting cabinets, each of which has at least one access aperture which can be closed by a blocking element. Increases security of display cabinets.
