The profile measuring arrangement has a detector (14) arranged in the reflection section of the laser beam (12) after deflection of the focussed beam by a vibrated mirror (36). The detector output provides a signal corresp. to the intensity of the laser beam incident on the detector. The cross section of the beam in the detector plane is greater than that of the detector. The focussing lens (32) has a low transmission characteristic or is suitably coated. ADVANTAGE - Enables accurate measurement of high power laser beam intensity profiles without degrading focus control.
