A circuit arrangement for monitoring AC loads used in the external system of a signal box is disclosed which permits the operating state of such AC loads to be monitored from the signal box and, at the same time, the influence of the line capacity to be eliminated so that even with large feed line lengths a reliable monitoring is possible. The circuit arrangement according to the invention consists of a threshold value circuit which is connected parallel to a measuring resistor arranged in the load circuit and a sensing circuit which is synchronised with the alternating operating voltage and interrogates the output of the threshold value circuit at the times of the alternating voltage period at which the idle current in the load circuit has a zero cross over point. A routing conductor in the input of the threshold value circuit brings about a constantly changing signal at its output which is used for the constant functional monitoring of the threshold value circuit and of further parts of the circuit downstream.
